Privacy Policy Statement

South Shore Savings Bank and its subsidiaries collectively referred to in this statement as "SSSB", and our trustees, officers and employees recognize our obligation to protect your privacy. You have placed your trust in this Bank and that trust involves the security and the confidentiality of your personal information.

We want you to understand what information we collect, how we share it, and the steps we take to protect customer information. This policy is provided to you as required by the Federal Financial Privacy Law.

We do not disclose any nonpublic personal information about our customers, or former customers to anyone, except as permitted by law or as otherwise described below. Customer information which we collect and maintain is used to support products and services that we provide to you and which we may use in the future. SSSB does not sell lists nor sell customer names and account information.

A. Information We Collect
We collect, retain and use nonpublic personal information about you from various sources, including the following:

  • Information we receive from you on applications or other forms, including but not limited to identifying information such as address, telephone number, e-mail address, social security number, date of birth, mother's maiden name, assets, income and other debts.
  • Information about your transactions and relationship with us or others, such as your account balance, payment history, overdraft history, parties to transactions or information about our communications with you.
  • Information we receive from a consumer-reporting agency, such as your credit history with other lenders.

B. Websites
Visitors to South Shore Savings Bank's web site (www.sssb.com) remain anonymous. We do not collect personal identifying information about visitors to our sites. For purposes of compiling statistics about site usage, our servers collect standard non-identifying information such as date and time visited, IP address, and country.

If you provide personal identifying information in an e-mail (such as your name and address), the information is used only to communicate with you to answer your request. When you use a password to enter our Home Banking system, the site switches to a "secure" mode. Your information is then protected by encryption and authentication techniques.

Personal identifying information that you provide by completing our applications for online banking or any other online application is only used by SSSB to provide you with the requested product or service or as otherwise described in this statement.

C. Information We May Share
We are permitted under law to disclose nonpublic personal information about you to other third parties in certain circumstances. For example, we may disclose nonpublic personal information about you to our data processing servicer to process your account transactions, and with others for loan originations, such as attorneys, appraisers and title insurance companies. In addition, we must respond to government subpoenas and report to credit bureaus. We do not disclose any nonpublic personal information about you to anyone, except as permitted by law and as disclosed below under "Third Parties". We do not use, retain or disclose any personal medical information about you for marketing purposes or to make credit decisions.

D. Why We Share Information
We use information that we collect to better serve you in the areas of fraud prevention, more efficient service of your accounts, improved processing of transactions that you authorize, verification of available funds, validation of creditworthiness and compliance with laws and regulations. Our employees access information about you when needed to maintain your accounts or to provide services to you.

E. Security Procedures
We also take steps to safeguard customer information. We restrict access to your personal and account information to those employees who need to know that information to provide products or services to you. Employees who violate these standards are subject to disciplinary measures. We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that are designed to comply with federal standards to guard your nonpublic personal information.

F. Third Parties
We may exchange limited nonpublic personal information (described above) with companies that conduct marketing services on our behalf or with other financial institution partners to offer jointly endorsed financial products or services.

We also require third parties, with whom we have a contract and to whom we disclose nonpublic personal information, to observe the same standards of integrity and confidentiality as our trustees, officers and employees.

Please be advised that we do not have any control over the disclosure or use of public personal information. Other third parties may use the information to contact you about their products, without any involvement by SSSB.

G. Maintaining Information Accuracy
It is very important to us that your account information is up to date and accurate. We provide you with access to your account through various means such as account statements, telephone banking and Home Banking. If you find your account information to be incomplete, inaccurate or not current, please call us or write to us at the phone number or address listed on your account statement, bank records or other documentation. We will update any erroneous information as quickly as possible.
